If you’re a fan of spicy food, D’Penyetz is the place to be! I absolutely love their Ikan Joget Sunda, Ikan Bakar Aroma Special (Mild), and the crispy, flavorful Cumi Goreng (Fried Calamari). Every dish has been delicious, with the Sambal Hijau (Level 3) packing the perfect amount of heat for spice lovers like me. While the dessert was just okay and the atmosphere is nothing special, the bold and authentic flavors make this place a must-try for anyone who enjoys Indonesian cuisine with a spicy kick. Highly recommend!

As a food blogger always on the hunt for bold, authentic flavours, D’Penyetz & D’Cendol in Burwood delivered a truly memorable Indonesian feast. We kicked off with the A/P Sambal Mercon (Level 5) – this smashed fried chicken dish is not for the faint-hearted. The sambal was fiery, fragrant, and layered with chilli heat that builds with each bite, yet still allowed the crispiness and juiciness of the chicken to shine through. A must-try for serious spice lovers! For something more herbaceous, the A/G Cabe Hijau offered a delightful contrast. The green chilli sauce had that signature Minang freshness with a punchy, slightly tangy heat that elevated the tender chicken fillet. The Ikan Bakar Bali was a standout—perfectly grilled fish, tender on the inside with a beautifully caramelised surface, drenched in a sweet, sticky Balinese sauce. It had that great balance of savoury, sweet, and smoky. One of the surprises of the night was the Cumi Salted Egg, a newer dish on the menu. The squid was well-cooked, tender, and coated in a rich, creamy salted egg sauce that was indulgent without being overpowering—comforting and addictive. We added the Terong Penyet, which was perfectly fried eggplant served with their signature sambal. The smoky bitterness of the eggplant paired beautifully with the vibrant chilli paste. The Special Omelette came with a mild in-house sauce and was fluffy and satisfying—great for those who prefer gentler flavours. To end on a sweet note, we had the Iced Cendol Durian—creamy, rich, and topped with real durian for that unmistakable Southeast Asian decadence. It was the perfect way to cool down after all the spice. Service was quick, friendly, and the atmosphere casual yet lively—ideal for a family meal or casual catch-up. If you’re craving Indonesian food with bold, unapologetic flavours, D’Penyetz & D’Cendol is the real deal. Highly recommended!

We always come here whenever we're craving Indonesian food. Every dish is delicious, and I highly recommend trying the Ikan Bakar Bali and the Ayam Geprek Cabe Mercon. The flavors never disappoint, and we’ll definitely be returning for more!

This place is a little gem: mains are less than $15, the atmosphere is super cozy (they have a heartwarming neon sign that says “you are so loved”, awwwww). Food tasted great, we had friend chicken, grilled chicken and melting-in-the-mouth beef ribs. Not easy to find Indonesian or singaporean food, so it’s good to know there’s a good place around. Also, their cendol rocks. And I had not idea what a cendol is before! Highly recommend, especially if you haven’t tried Indonesian food before and want something new.

This is one of the best spots for food. I've had a lot of Indonesian cuisine, but nothing has ever been as delicious as this. Everything from the food to the service and the shop's decor is exceptional. The space might be a bit small and crowded, especially on weekends, but it's never a letdown. The customer service is outstanding; the waitstaff are always smiling, and the food is fantastic. It can be a bit spicy depending on the level you choose, but overall, it's amazing. I even brought my entire family of 15-20 people here, and they were more than accommodating.

Came in for dinner and ordered the iga bakar, ayam penyet sambal, ayam penyet grepek and the mie kangkung balachan. We’ve been to D’penyetz in other locations in Melbourne and also on Sussex street and food flavour and portions is definitely consistent with other locations. The iga bakar (sticky beef) is so fragrant and delicious. The beef is very succulent with nice fat to meat ratio. The fried chicken (whole and smashed) were both also great. Perfect texture and taste. For the smashed chicken I suggest easing on the spice level as this can be quite spicy regardless of if you scrape the chilli off or not. The mie kankung balachan (fried noodles) was not really to my taste as much as I love balachan (shrimp paste). I felt like the dish was not flavourful at all…. borderline bland. Customer service was good and food came out in decent time. Tables were cleared up very quick (as soon as we snapped a photo of the tables next to us it was cleared like 30 seconds later).

Finally got to try to eat here, as we always see they busy and no tables left. This time they have some tables, and we ordered from the counter, they will bring the food to the table. Recheck again your order as this time they have forgotten 1 item, but understandable and apologetic as they said the kitchen has short staff. Prices were okay, a bit on the expensive side, and food were yummy, clean toilet, clean atmosphere, service were superb. We ordered too much so we can try many things in the end we were too full and had to take away some, luckily the lady gave us free container. Costs us $93 for 5 dishes and 3 rice. For 2 people. Too much hahaha.

Every dish is so flavourful. If you haven't tried Indonesian food, this is a good place to start . Menu has photo and description and was easy to understand. Can't believe how many types of Sambal they have , and each one so unique. As per the name Cendol is something that you must try. The caramel had a deep palm sugar aroma which goes really well with the bouncy cendol (and all other 9-10topping that they offer.) Portion was generous. Only cons would be that the restaurant is quite small. if you come as a big group , i would recommend contacting the restaurant first.

I get what all the hype is about now. Perfectly cooked/grilled meats with sauce flavours full of punch. No wonder there is always a line outside this place. Chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy on the inside and flavoursome on the outside. Fish was grilled to perfection, soft and tender meat on the inside but crispy and delicious skin. Can tell they use fresh fish too as I devoured the head and brains. Prawns were maybe a little touch over cooked but they do use these massive jumbo size prawns with lots of head roe. Excellent quality produce at very reasonable prices. We also ordered a sweet and sour soup from the sides section. Can tell a lot of skills went into even making this side dish. Balanced flavours and hints of roasted prawn shells that enhances umami on your tongue. Highly recommended place and I would come back again just to try a few other things and different sauces.

Today's weather forecast: Spicy. And not just any type of spicy. We're talking the rich, intense, funky and fermented sweatbeads on your nose type of spicy that is Indonesian sambal 🥵 my Indo friends Vivian and Ant have been quite excited to show me the smashed fried chicken at D'Penyetz & D'Cendol since their opening in Burwood last year. Apparently there was a lot of community excitement when news came of their first Sydney store because of how widespread and popular the brand name is in Indonesia. They've since opened another outlet on Sussex St. (That block's a super cool nook of the city that has almost become an Indo-town by the way. Worth the walk-around if you're ever up that way!). D'Penyetz & D'Cendol actually has around 130 stores across Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Brunei and Myanmar. Their signature is the ayam penyet - Indonesian smashed fried chicken. I've tried ayam geprek before, where fried chicken is smashed up completely before being mixed in sambal. The difference here is ayam penyet only features a light 'smash'. If anything, it's more like a squeeze. After frying the chicken, a pestle is used to lightly squeeze down the chicken, cracking through the skin slightly to release the juice and soften the meat for tearing apart (supposedly). By itself, I like the chicken a lot. It has hints of garlic, galangal and turmeric. I love those crispy bits on top. When you add sambal into the mix though and eat with white rice.. oooo baby that's good! There's 5 different levels of spice you can get. The level 4 (sambal terasi) is their most recommended and the one I chose, but it does pack a punch. You can tone it down with level 3, a green chilli sambal, or go up a level if you're a daredevil. The level 4 was nice for me personally! Would also recommend their kangkung terasi, water spinach stir-fried with shrimp paste chilli sambal, and their tahu telor special, scrambled egg on a bed of tofu with that glorious Indonesian peanut sauce on top. I didn't try their cendol on this occasion though feel I should have. It's in the name after all. Maybe next time 🙂 📍D'Penyetz & D'Cendol, Burwood

Exciting news! My go-to Indonesian restaurant just unveiled a new menu, and it's a must-try. 😍 First up, the Mie Kangkung Belacan—bursting with flavor and nostalgic for anyone missing authentic hometown dishes. Then there's the salted egg chicken, which is irresistibly crunchy and seasoned to perfection. For the heat seekers, the chicken with three different chilies is an absolute firestorm. 🔥 The clams and vegetable tamarind soup are another highlight, combining rich flavors in a satisfying way. And for dessert, the es cendol with durian is simply out of this world. Don't miss it! 😍

Big size of delicious fish. The lady is so friendly and very accommodate toward our needs. She moved us to a bigger table so we can enjoy our big meal. Waiting time for the food was short even it was packed when we arrived. Mie goreng is also yummy! As a former of graphic design, I can say that layouts in booklet menu is fabulously well designed. Good job!!!

Indulge in a delectable array of Indonesian culinary delights, featuring a diverse range of sambal sauce condiment options, at this charming eatery. Situated on the bustling Burwood main street, the restaurant is conveniently reachable on foot or via train. Additionally, the nearby Burwood Plaza provides ample parking facilities for those arriving by car. As for the dining experience, guests can enjoy the convenience of self-service utensils and water. Please note that electronic transactions will be subject to an additional surcharge.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this establishment, and I must say, their service is exceptional. Despite waiting for almost an hour, the experience was well worth it. The food, especially the eggs, was delicious, and the chili had just the right amount of kick. I highly recommend trying it out!

This was my first time visiting this store, and I have to say — the food is absolutely amazing! From the moment I walked in, the environment was clean, welcoming, and well-maintained. The manager was fantastic — very friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. If you love fresh chili sauce paired with crispy fries or perfectly grilled chicken, this place is a must-try! I highly recommend everyone to taste the food here — you won’t be disappointed. Truly amazing! Rafiq

Dpenyetz stands out as the best Indonesian restaurant I've experienced in Sydney so far! The taste remarkably mirrors authentic Indonesian cuisine. I consistently opt for the mercon level of spice because I enjoy the heat. What sets them apart is not just the outstanding food but also the incredible staff and service. They are incredibly friendly, efficient, and the food is served promptly, even during busy times when there's a queue – you'll be attended to seamlessly! I always highly recommend it to everyone I've met!😍😍 don’t forget to order the cendol durian as well !

We came for dessert on a weekend - the restaurant is quite popular and it was still fully despite being past peak lunchtime. We ordered the Signature Dessert - it's on the menu but you'll need to order it at the counter as it's missing from the QR code menu. Also got an original cendol drink. Both were very well done and They were generous with the toppings in both the dessert and the drink. The syrup was sweet but not too sweet once you've mixed it in. Service was quick and efficient and the restaurant is still newish so the decor and surrounds was comfortable but it is a smallish store (which is the case for most of the shops in Burwood). Will return to try their food menu next time!

We had a delightful dining experience here. The standout dish of the evening was undoubtedly the fried chicken with a tantalising spice level 3. It lived up to the rave reviews we had read beforehand. The only minor drawback was the wait time for the food to be served. Nonetheless, overall, this restaurant offers a fantastic Indonesian culinary experience.

The durian cendol at D’Cendol is a bold, unapologetically rich take on a Southeast Asian classic, with the pungent creaminess of durian adding a decadent layer to the already indulgent coconut milk, palm sugar syrup, and green rice flour jellies (cendol). The combination is undeniably intense—sweet, earthy, and slightly funky in the best way—and it’s clearly made for those who appreciate durian’s distinct character. The texture is just as satisfying, with the cendol providing a pleasant chew and the ice keeping it refreshingly cool. For cendol lovers with a fearless palate, this version doesn’t hold back, and that’s exactly its charm.

Indonesian food in Burwood - yes, please! we walked in, and it was like a party! Vibrant walls, lively vibes, and a menu that screamed "Chilli Lovers Unite!" I was like a kid in a candy store, eager to try the mysterious bright green chilli dish... little did I know, it was about to set my mouth ABLAZE! I ordered the Ayam Penyet Cabe Hijau, aka the "Green Chilli of Doom"! First bite? MIND. BLOWN. My taste buds were like "YAAAS, CHILLI!" while my mouth was all "HELP, I'M ON FIRE!" But hey, that chicken was COOKED. TO. PERFECTION. Worth the burning tongue? Totally! Indonesian street food coma incoming! I wanted to order ALL THE THINGS, but my mouth was like "CHILLI, CHILLI, EVERYWHERE!" Note to self: next time, opt for "no chilli" (is that even Indonesian?). Highly recommend, but don't say I didn't warn you... bring milk! We ordered ~ [Halal] ~ Ayam Penyet Cabe Hijau $16.10 Smashed Fried Chicken with Padangnese Green Chilli Sauce. ~ Iga Bakar $21.10 Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs. ~ Chilli Pipis $22.40 Pipis Saus Padang ~ Ice Cendol Durian $9.80 (make sure you order the Ice Cendol Durian if you visit!) I loved it! ~ Grass Jelly drink $5.00

This restaurant is a must for spicy lovers (although dishes can be made mild/non-spicy too). Delicious Iga Bakar (Grilled Beef Ribs) and Tahu Telor. The chicken dishes were yummy too. Love the Sambal Terasi. The Cendol was really good, with generous amount of palm sugar. Fast & friendly service. I will be back for more!

Cendol home-made style, same like Pekalongan version with strong pandan style. Snowing ice with red sticky rice, cendol, red bean, black grass jelly, yellow jack-fruit, milk, and bit of coconut milk, brown sugar, and from all of it, the winner of Indonesian taste reminizing local memory is cendol.
