We came here after being recommended by friends. We ordered the Saturday Special Nasi Tumpeng set that comes with the fragrant yellow rice, fried chicken, fried noodles and spiced potatoes. We are so pleasantly surprised at how good the fried chicken was. The chicken literally fell off the bone, tasty moist and crunchy all at once. We ordered the Ayam Kalasan as well (no photo taken, as we ate it so quickly). It’s the same here, we are so impressed by the chicken that is tasty, moist and falling off the bone- all goes so well with the provided home-made chilli sauce. We really enjoyed the very authentic Indonesian food. And at the price charged, this is definitely one value for money yummy gem!

Keep returning here, especially for the green chilli chicken (always cooked great and tasty) and also the beef ribs. Best beef ribs around by far too. Take away or dine in the food is great.

This place has Pork ribs that fall off the bone and very addictive onion rings! The food is served quickly, very good flavours and so well priced. A full rack of ribs for only $38 is a bloody good deal! I have yet to try their other dishes on the menu and they all look so good but I just can't go past the ribs and onion rings 😁

This place never disappoints. Jo the owner is very friendly and generous. Also very creative with the food menu. My go to is the chicken rice pack, grilled ribs and sweet potato fries. You can custom the spicy levels accordingly. He has got a variety of sauces and dips for sides as well. Great portion and value for money.

Great variety of menu, friendly staff. It was super busy when we were there, so the wait was a little longer, but for a restaurant, it's actually a good sign! Food was top notch. Definitely worth the waiting!

The crispy chicken is really good! This place is a true local gem, mostly visited by Indonesians themselves. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open until lunchtime on Sundays. Definitely planning to come back next time for the Nasi Goreng fried rice!

A small, friendly Indonesian restaurant that offers a wide range of dishes. We came to taste Indonesian meals and we weren’t disappointed. Serving was hearty and quite fulfilling. Spice level was toned down upon request. I would recommend their house specialty, fried chicken wings. It was crispy and full of flavour. I would highly recommend you try their menu. It has plenty to offer.

Jo's is my favourite local Indonesian restaurant ❤️ I've been here so many times, I haven't been able to keep count. Their sambal is the best!!! And their portions and prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend anything chicken with sambal, and the fried rice. We also love their deep fried items like chips, onion rings and calamari - they're so crunchy and perfectly seasoned. So addictive! Hope this place never shuts down 🙏🏿🙏🏿😭💕 please support this wonderful business and the lovely Indonesian family who run it and cook.

A real hidden gem! The food is really good and well priced. The chicken is cooked perfectly and the sambal is delicious. Ribs were very nice, but I would say the serving of the half rack was on the small side. Despite this, I'm definitely keen to come back and try other dishes. Service was amazing too!

Loved the grilled chicken combo with rice and veggies, the fried potato crisp with some sweet syrup tasted amazing, loved the chicken and the sauce too, the green chilli one is very spicy but so good, highly recommend it for those who love spicy food! Food is very affordable, value for money and decent portions! Great service too. Will be back to try the other dishes!

Nice and quiet Indonesian grill restaurant tucked away in a little hidden area close to Westfield Knox. We tried the 1/2 Grilled Chicken, Fried Rice and Javanese Fried Chicken with Rice set. The grilled chicken is nicely cooked with smokey and peppery sauce. The fried rice also has very nice Asian flavours. The Javanese fried chicken set is also great, though the sauce is could be a little more authentic. Service is nice and friendly. And the prices are reasonable. It would be good to have more Indonesian or Asian desserts on the menu. Overall, enjoyable experience.

Looooove this place!!!!! The Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger is amazing, not too spicy. The Fish Burger is delicious as well especially if you're not too hungry. The chips have the best seasoning, something like salt and vinegar. Plenty of traditional Indonesian food as well. This place is a hidden gem. YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY!!!!

Jo’s Grill is an authentic Indonesian restaurant with a lot of interesting dishes. We got the Lele Kremes, deep fried catfish with rice; Soto Betawi, Indonesian coconut soup with beef, tendon and tripe; and flame grilled chicken wings. All of the dishes were tasty. The deep fried catfish’s batter was very crunchy and the fish was still pretty juicy. The coconut soup was soothing with some hints of curry because of all the spice. The wings were plenty hot and spicy, but you could choose the suitable spice level for your palette.

ORIGINAL 2021: This is one of those places where you don't expect to be good but then it blows you away. Located in a business district we had low expectations, but don't let that fool you, the chef knows what he is doing! It was refreshing to get such a well done chicken in a restaurant! And to top it up, they are all so friendly and welcoming. The rice pack with lemon oregano sauce is a must try for anyone who goes there. Simply amazing. Cannot wait to go back and try more of their menu. UPDATE: Went there a second time and this time we tried the more Indonesian dishes and I have to say they they continue to amaze us! We will definitely go back to try more of the menu and see what they have to offer. It's great to see a chef who is very friendly and proud of what he does :) We weren't sure about their onions rings, but have to say it's one of the best we've tried in the area! fresh, tasty and super crispy! will be a staple choice. Perhaps the only complaint I can have is that the chicken on the Ayam Kerasam was a bit on the dry side, but the chili sauce very well made up for that! Very nice and flavoursome chili which competent the dish very well 👍🏼 (Do note that the Rice Pack chicken we tried last time was very tender and juicy so perhaps this is the style of chicken for this dish 😅) EDIT 2023: Been going here for a while, they are great! It's good to see they have kept their quality over time. I've added some more photos of dishes.

Have heard about Jo's Grill many times before and for the first time today I tried their food. Outstanding and highly satisfactory! Ordered 3 dishes and they were all amazing. First was fall-off-the-bone and very tasty signature pork ribs, accompanied by chips with great taste & long-lasting crunch and yummy coleslaw. Second was perfectly grilled tilapia fish with sweet soy basting, served with their in-house chilli sauce (which I ordered to be separated from the basting, as my kids can't handle spicy). Third was crunchy deep-fried battered catfish and deep-fried tofu, served with very crunchy and tasty kremes (fried coating/batter bits). Overall, it was a very satisfying experience because not only were there flavour explosions, there were also beautiful texture offerings (tenderness and crunch). Will come back again for sure! 👍✌.

We finally got a chance to visit Jo's Grill @jo_grill in Knoxfield and we were blown away! The food here was sensational, this was one of the tastiest food we tried this year and that's probably an understatement. • Must-try: 🍗 Buffalo Chicken Wings 🧅 Onion Rings 🐖 Baby Back Pork Ribs 🐓Ayam Bakar 🐓 Ayam Kalasan 🍚 Chicken Fried Rice • To start with, we tried the highly rated Buffalo Chicken Wings, this dish has received so much praise from the Indonesian community. The sauce coated the wings perfectly and we just cannot stop eating those wings. The meat was super tender, yum! The onion rings surprisingly were also very good and very addictive, we believe the seasonings were influenced heavily by Indonesian spices. We smashed both the wings and the onion rings...too good! • The Pork ribs fell off the bone, literally! And it was very very delicious, the meat was very succulent. This signature dish is a must-order here, perfection on a plate. • Ayam Kalasan was superb! The flavor of the marination penetrated deeply into the meat, banging! The chicken meat was also super tender and fell off the bone. And we heard that this Ayam Kalasan is cooked using an authentic way by using coconut water not coconut milk as many restaurants do. • We also ordered the grilled chicken with the spicy-sweet soy sauce and that was hitting the spot very nicely but you can also customize the sauce to your liking especially if you like spicy food, you can go crazy here. • A truly hidden gem in Melbourne. Cannot wait to go back and try more of their menu, the only drawback is the location which is not close to where we live and far from the city.

Very delicious pork ribs here. The meat is very succulent, tasty and tender. Highly recommend this as its their signature dish. I also had the Beef Rendang Burger which was nice and spicy. Tastes like real meat instead of the heavily processed beef mince. Also met Connie who is very friendly and explained all the different choices on the menu.

My partner loves trying the different Indonesian cuisine. I love that I can have Ribs, Burgers or hotdogs (I'm really "adventurous"). They even sell beer to help with the spice (They happily tone down the spice upon request). Love this place. Amazing family business. Update... I highly recommend the Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger. This is unquestionably the best chicken burger I have ever had. Tender, juicy chicken fried in a crispy coating served with plenty of cheese, lettuce, tomato and a delicious spicy sauce that warms and tingles the mouth without the spice affecting the throat or stomach. This is my weekly treat, paired with a bowl of their fantastic chips and a bottle of beer for under $30.00. Every time I walk out feeling full and with a contented smile on my face.
