An after hours cafe? What are you guys thinking? Yes, yes, we know it's an unusual and somewhat risky idea... But we thought we'd give it a go! Kita means "us" or "we" in Bahasa Indonesia. We are a family run establishment, with years of hospitality experience behind us - consisting of a father who's an emergency services shift worker, a mother who brings the Indonesian flair all the way from South Sumatra, her two brothers who have perfected a Mie Goreng, and a son, barista at heart with a mission to change the night scene in Canberra. So, as far as we know, we got this! Kinda... Now that you know a little more about us, let us tell you why we have created Kita. The after hours resonates from the father's workmates always having issues finding decent coffee and a place to eat post 9pm. Combining this with the mother's Indonesian influence and family recipes, and the son's love for hospitality, we opened our doors in 2018. We wanted to create a space where someone can experience great food, great coffee, and excellent service at anytime of the night. We aim to cater for all shift workers, service people, uni students (we have free wifi!) and literally anyone else that is fed up with Canberra being dead after 9pm. A nocturnal hotspot. Welcome to Kita.

Tucked away in inner south is Kita Canberra at the Narrabundah Shops. It operates at different hours to include access to good coffee and a home made meal for frontline and shift workers. Everything on the menu is yum and I love the furniture and plants inside. Makes it feel homely. The staff are tentative and I don’t know how they do it but they remember your order without having to write it down. You can’t book so you need to be there before 6pm because there is always a line up to get a table.

In theory, Kita is the perfect study cafe for any sleep deprived uni students, and a great spot for night shift workers to find a good pick me up. In practice, on some nights you might find it difficult to get a table, at least not before it reaches the early hours of the morning. This is, I would say, only a testament to the quality of food and service provided here, made only all the more impressive by the sheer volume of effort it takes to keep a cafe open and staffed for sixty of the least hospitable hours of the week. The sheer novelty alone should be enough to keep customers returning, but with coffee this good, and a vibe so immaculate, it's easy for me to say it's worth the visit.

I don't know many places that are open well beyond midnight. But this spot does have the late night availabilities, good coffee and good fishcakes. Personally I could pass on the rice and the burger. Felt a bit bland and not exciting. Pricing is fair too But I do like the overall mood and ambiance. Hospitality is great too. U know it's a good spot when the police come here for their takeaways.

Seen many reviews about this place and was worth giving it a go. The service was outstanding, with the food much better! 😀 Enjoyed fish cakes as an entree, chicken mi Goreng, and the special curry, which was chicken with white sauce, coriander, and rice. The food came out quickly and was of a very high standard. There was more on the menu that we would love to try. So we look forward to coming back again. Thank you kindly 😀

Went to Kita on a Saturday night around 2 am. What a gift to be open and serving great food at this time! Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Arrived pretty hungry after a very long international flight serving inedible food. Although late this restaurant feels super safe. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with real plants and fun animated movies playing in the background. Food and service was amazing and so appreciated . Thanks for the vegan muffin given as a parting gift to us! Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Had to sit outside cause we had a dog with us and it was cold night, but Zac was kind enough to get us all blankets to stay warm! Lovely staff, great food and just a really cool place to chill!

Fantastic spot with a great vibe. We sat outside in the freezing cold and the staff gave us blankets to keep warm, which was a nice touch. Great food - the mie goreng was delicious!

Me and my friends have been coming here regularly for a while now and we always have a great night. The food is fantastic, the staff are super friendly and the place has a lovely cozy vibe. Perfect for late night hangs or dates.

Went there for dinner. Since they don’t accept reservation, we went there as walk in and accepted a table outside though it’s cold. Eating Laksa suits best to warm ourselves. So full after.

My favourite dinner spot ever!!! food is always phenomenal and atmosphere is always good vibes… I especially love the staff and the curry of the week especially if you want to change it up every once and a while. Hot chocolates are unlike any other I’ve had and genuinely a great spot that everyone should try!! Highly recommend

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and welcomed by the amazing staff. The staff were very helpful and approachable throughout the night, the food was well priced and tasted great and it was also halal too! The interior design and vibes inside are also so cute! Will definitely be back again!

First and foremost, I would like to establish that this is not a paid review, fake review, this is an upfront and honest review from my personal experiences. Kita to me is not only a restaurant, it is an environment for me to relax and be at peace. For me it can be an office, workspace, date spot and I use it for many more other things when I have spare time. Kita as an establishment has exceeded plenty of expectations as a consumer and I am appalled after reading some of its reviews on google. After gathering knowledge about some of these reviews, it left me upset and angry. From the service, Kita puts out their absolute very best every time they are open. I have been to Kita multiple times now, and I can confidently say every time I have been the service I receive is impeccable, every. damn. time. The environment is great. Friendly staff, friendly customers. It seems to have an aura around its building to put you into a good mood everytime you visits. Another thing is the actual food. Now I saw a lot of complaints about the portion sizes. I myself like to eat a lot, and I order multiple dishes everytime. As an adult the serving sizes are most than generous the feed the average adult, those complaining about the portion sizes were people who either came from a foreign place (America) who are used to eating overly sized portions of food they think when coming to Australia the sizes would be the same. No, I think the prices are as fair as they get. Keep in mind the quality of the food is close to some of the best quality in foods I get in most restaurants here in Canberra, consistency is not a lacking issue here. It hits right every time you order. They always have a clean space on every table, top tier cleanliness on every single Table. Did I also mention that they are one of the not so many places open from 12am-6am. It can get really busy here sometimes, it is an understandable reason to have a wait time that can sometimes last long. One thing the kita team members do is being informing you if they have a long wait time. I have been put on their waitlist for more than 15-30 minutes and I will wait almost every single time. It is worth the visit and I can not appreciate nearly enough how hard working this crew is and under appreciated they are for giving our community a different touch and vibe of culture. Seriously kita is one of the coolest places you can go to.

During my recent visit to Kita, I enjoyed three delightful items: Laksa, Nasi Goreng, and the staff-recommended drink, Strawberry Kiss. LAKSA The Laksa featured prawn in a spicy, creamy coconut soup. The soup was rich and flavorful, perfectly balancing creaminess with a gentle spice. The combination of rice noodles and hokkien noodles provided a pleasant texture, while fried shallots added a delightful crunch. NASIGORENG The Nasi Goreng, with a choice of chicken, included fried rice mixed with fresh vegetables and sweet soy sauce. The perfectly cooked fried egg on top, with its runny yolk, added richness. The crackers and fried shallots provided an enjoyable crunch. Strawberry Kiss The Strawberry Kiss, made with strawberries, watermelon, and lime, was refreshing and delicious. The natural sweetness of the strawberries and watermelon, combined with the zesty lime, made it a perfect, invigorating drink. Both the food and drink were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. The flavours were well-balanced, and the portions generous. I highly recommend Kita for anyone looking to enjoy delicious meals with diverse dietary options, accompanied by refreshing drinks.

We were lucky to have a seat inside in this freezing weather. This place is jam packed and offers delicious food. Loved their vanilla slice and coffee. The vibe here is phenomenal! A must visit for night owls like me 💁🏻♀️

What a gem! Serving delicious staple Indonesian food, such as Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, Bubur Ayam and weekly curry, Kita is a great and funky restaurant/case tucked in Narrabundah. I went there with two friends and we left feeling satisfied. I had the satay ayam curry and es cincau, while my friends ordered the mie and nasi goreng. The food were delicious. I bought the vanilla slice and it was ... delicious 😋 A funky, cool and hip restaurant serving great Indonesian food. Thank you and will be back again 👍

Love this place sooo much💕🦉🌿 Food is always delicious, service is always amazing, and it's very nice and cosy!! Although it's sometimes hard to get a table as it's kinda small and quite popular, the staff absolutely do their best to accommodate you. I'd recommend their curry of the week! It literally changes every week but it's always fantastic! Ikan Pepes is great too! And of course a range of desserts and coffee to finish your meal with, make your night 🤤🩷 I wish I could go there every week, honestly!

Am delighted to see a cafe open till late! Arrived at around midnight and there was around a 20 minute wait. Food wasn’t bad, quite filling, good flavours but a bit heavy and definitely satisfied my late night hunger cravings

I had an amazing experience at KITA Restaurant! It's the only restaurant in Canberra that is open overnight, from Wednesday to Saturday, which makes it incredibly convenient for late-night dining. The overall service was excellent, and I was impressed by the friendly and attentive staff who made sure our dining experience was unforgettable. The food at KITA Restaurant was simply exquisite. Every dish was prepared with great care and attention to detail, showcasing the skill and dedication of the chefs. The flavors were outstanding, and the presentation was truly impressive. It's clear that the restaurant takes pride in offering a diverse menu that caters to a range of palates. In addition to the delicious food, the service at KITA Restaurant was top-notch. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome. The staff members were knowledgeable about the menu and were happy to provide recommendations based on our preferences. Throughout the meal, they ensured we had everything we needed and checked in with us regularly, creating a pleasant and stress-free dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend KITA Restaurant. It's a unique gem in Canberra, being the only restaurant open overnight from Wednesday to Saturday. The food is of exceptional quality, and the service is outstanding. Whether you're looking for a late-night dining option or simply want to indulge in some incredible food with excellent service, KITA Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

Need a quick tasty meal at any time during the evening, late night or even over night? How about a breakfast? Well Kita is the place for you. From familiar dishes such as laksa and nasi goreng to more creative dishes such as Pandan waffles with seasonal fruits and coconut icecream, Kita serves up great meals with aplomb. Dishes are adequate in size and well balanced in flavour and texture. There's also a well listed drinks menu and other offerings such as pastries and tarts to delight you. There is also a curry of day option. Menu caters for vegetarians also. Staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. However they can be very busy serving everyone and might miss being attentive to you. Patience may be required. There is a constant buzz with high turn over of customers. There's plenty of police dropping in also picking up coffees and snacks. Definitely worth visiting. Multiple visits may be required to sample everything. Note that parking can be tight during busy times such as Friday and Saturday evenings

A mostly simple but delicious Indonesian menu. The kids & I were excited to try real Mee Goreng (as opposed to their favourite instant noodle version 😜). Super full from the generous dish sizes, we only had room for 1 dessert & it had to be the pandan waffles & it was yummmmm! But...as a super lovely surprise, we also received the specials menu dessert (banana crepes) and as full as we were, we weren't going to say no and it was worth it! Always love & appreciate good customer service and this is definitely somewhere I give a big massive tick for. Love the decor & atmosphere. Got to sit up on the balcony with the kids & they loved it. Couch style seating surrounded by interesting artworks including of owls that represent the late night opening hours. I'd come back again & again & def recommend, even just for dessert.

Great early morning breakfast experience. Ordered the martabak with sauteed mushrooms. Service was excellent, asked all the right questions, even offered us chili to go with the martabak. Chili was nice and hot! Recommend this highly. And halal! Also have visited in the evenings. Usually have to wait a bit for seating but it's worth it.

Great food, great service, being served at hours where other places are closed (through the night). I’ll never have to starve through the night anymore! Outdoor seatings available where the chairs are spacious and comfortable even for Mochi 🐶.

Kita had truly captured the authentic flavors and ambiance of Indonesia, leaving us feeling like we just took a culinary journey through the streets of Jakart.. The coffee was surprisingly good (from the point of view that Campos isn't the bean I regularly like) but the rich aroma and smooth flavor of this coffee from your cafe is a true indulgence for my taste buds. Would love to order a second cup, but me already been caffeinated enough for the day. Will surely visit Kita again upon its nice vibes, great services, and their fabulous food and coffee!
