Everything was really delish!! I recommend the small tempeh dish, chicken sate, gado gado. The sambal trio w duck nasi goreng was good too! Wasn’t a fan of the flavours of the mie goreng. Lovely service. We came in early (maybe 6pm?) on a Saturday evening and got a table and filled very quickly after.

My partner and I visited Makan craving Indonesian food, and it did not disappoint. The beef Rendang was so tender, slow-cooked in a rich sauce. The Satay chicken skewers were smoky and juicy with a delicious peanut sauce. The Nasi Goreng was the star, savory, spicy, and topped with a perfect fried egg. Highly recommend Makan for anyone searching for the best and authentic Indonesian cuisine in Melbourne.

Tried makan last night and was seriously impressed. We had the sate maranggi beef skewers, rendang sapi, ayam goreng kecap, jagung bakar, and a bowl of nasi putih. The sate maranggi was tender and packed with flavour. You could taste the shallot-soy marinade coming through properly balanced and rich without being overpowering. The rendang sapi was slow-cooked wagyu beef in a dark chilli curry. It was soft, fell apart with a spoon, and had that deep, slow-braised flavour you want in a proper rendang. The ayam goreng kecap—fried chicken ribs with chilli soy glaze and lime mayo, was the standout. Crunchy, sticky, and full of flavour. I’d go back just for these. Jagung bakar, the grilled corn ribs, were simple but perfect. Nicely charred, seasoned well, and paired with a garlic dip that actually added to the dish. Nasi putih (steamed jasmine rice) tied everything together. Nothing fancy, just cooked right. Service was excellent and friendly, fast, and on point. The vibe in the venue was warm and comfortable, with just the right energy for a casual night out or a proper meal with friends. Makan is doing things right. Good food, done with care, and flavours that actually deliver.

The presentation was a perfect 10/10, and the service was just as outstanding. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. We can’t wait to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!

Makan Minum is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves bold flavors and a vibrant dining experience. This isn’t just another Indonesian restaurant—it’s a refined yet soulful take on the cuisine, blending tradition with a sophisticated, modern touch. The food? Simply outstanding. The chicken is an absolute knockout—succulent, perfectly spiced, and bursting with flavor. Every dish is layered with depth, balancing heat, sweetness, and umami in a way that lingers long after the last bite. Pair it with their expertly crafted cocktails or mocktails, and you’ve got an experience worth savoring. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is effortlessly stylish yet welcoming. Warm lighting, contemporary decor, and an energy that hums with conversation make it the perfect spot for a date night, a gathering with friends, or even a solo indulgence. Makan Minum is more than just a meal—it’s an experience, a love letter to Indonesian flavors with a Melbourne twist. Don’t just take my word for it—go, eat, and thank me later.

Had dinner here to celebrate a mate's birthday and it was such a delightful experience. We all ordered the chef's selections and it didn't disappoint. The dishes were very flavourful and the portions were more than we expected which was a pleasant surprise. The service was also amazing, especially thanks to our section manager Hadassah who was very attentive and accommodating to our needs which significantly improved our overall experience. At the end, we left full and happy.

Stopped by Makan because I was seriously craving for Indonesian flavours — and it was everything I hoped for.. The Rendang was just like my grandma’s: spicy, rich, and full of comfort, reminded me of home. The Satay skewers were juicy and smoky - and definitely my kids' favourite! The Nasi Goreng had the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and spicy. The tahu telor is always my family's must-have dish. Topped with the comforting wedang jahe drink. Makan is easily the best Indonesian spot in Melbourne.

The restaurant is hard to find. Google took us down Collins Street and we couldn’t find the entrance there. I recommend navigating to Critical Hit (game shop) as the alley to Makan is right next to the game shop. The food is very good. Each dish was quite unique and great for sharing. The service is also very attentive. It’s hard to pick a favourite dish since everything we tried was very good. One of the best things about the food was the uniqueness of each flavour profile. Each dish had its own unique flavour and texture, rather than just being spicy or sweet.

Bit hard to find, but what a great restaurant. Big enough without being too big, beautiful decor, excellent friendly and professional service, and wonderful food. As a group of 5 ladies, we did consider the set menu for $70 each, but decided against it and chose our own dishes to share. Everything was delicious, especially the lamb ribs, just wow! The only disappointment was the dessert, the condensed milk creme caramel, which I thought lacked flavour. With a shared bottle of sparkling wine and a beer each, it was great value for money at $67 each

Nestled in a laneway, Makan was superb!! We loved the vibe and everything we tried, but top favorites include the chicken skewers, ceviche, barramundi, and duck fried rice. Photos don’t do it justice. Big, delicious flavors. Very friendly and attentive staff too. We’d recommend to any friends in Melbourne!

Delicious, beautifully balanced and presented Indonesian food with a great range of options for vegetarians as well. I have been here on 2 occasions and the quality has been superb each time. They staff are fantastic at wine pairings and they have some fun and you cocktails as well. The desserts are also divine and left me wanting more. Particularly the black sticky rice! Sweet, creamy and a hint of salt to round it out. The Tasting menu (Makan time) for 65 including dessert definitely fills you up and is a good option to try lots of dishes - they are very accommodating for dietary restrictions if your group has any.

Unbelievable food at an incredible price hidden away in a small alleyway. The softshell crab buns and all the ribs are a must order! The cocktails were also wonderful. The staff are also very caring and knowledgeable about the food, although it can sometimes be hard to get their attention. Overall a great place to go for a casual dinner!

Delicious modern Indonesian food hidden in the end of Collins Way, @makaninmelbourne is a blink and you will miss it restaurant - but don’t miss it or you will miss out! Highly recommend their soft shell crab bun (omg could have eaten 10 of those!!!), wagyu nasi goreng and chicken ribs. And don’t forget to try their cocktails too! What was a slight let down is that the restaurant is quite spacious, and there was only 4-5 tables that night. Yet for some reason they crammed all of the diner in one corner of the restaurant.

Went here for lunch. Had a great time. Staffs helpful, service quick. Ambiance was good, music not too loud , tables with good spacing in between, decor clean and simple. I like that the waiting area is separate as sometimes people waiting can make a place look so disorganized and chaotic. We had the Nasi Goreng and mixed crackers with peanut sauce. Servings were generous and well seasoned. Reasonably priced too. This isn’t my first time here and it is always a good experience. A bit tricky to find, it’s inside the building ground floor, right side towards the end of the ground floor if entering from Collins st.

As an Indonesian, I highly recommend this place. Even though the flavors may not be as strong as in Indonesia, the food still tastes so good. The flavour for each dish is balanced and I do really love the Ikan Bakar with Jimbaran sauce. This is definitely worth to try cause you’ll never find this anywhere else in Melbourne. Trying these dish made me miss Indonesia even more.

Our waiters were super attentive and informative. Food was delicious, well presented and serving sizes were generous. Cocktails were also high quality. Pride was taken in all aspects. ORDERED: ❤️  Mie Goreng Komplit*: Fried egg noodle, chicken satay peanut sauce, carrot and cucumber pickles, garlic crackers, fried egg ($25.00) 🍹  Mango Tea Spritz: Mango puree, jasmine tea, lime, soda water ($12.00) *lunch special I paid $37.63 including the card surcharge REVIEW: I've been going to Makan for years. Their lunch menu is one of the best in the city, and it feels like a hidden gem with the location being in a sequestered spot. It's accessible via a laneway or through 360 Collins street building. 📸 ✔️ The Mie Goreng Komplit noodle is stir fried perfectly, amalgamating together with the cabbage and other vegetables. 🍝 ➖ The chicken satay peanut is new - and I prefer having that separately because I find the peanut sauce isn't the BEST complement to the savoury umami noodles. ✔️ The fried egg adds a creaminess to the dish, while the the pickled carrot and cucumbers provides a little sharp sourness which is great to cut through the savouriness of it all. ✔️ The colourful garlic crackers are fun to munch on as well! The portion size is fantastic, and I always leave feeling full. My friend ordered the Nasi campur bali and it looked delicious. I think I'll be straying from my main love (Mie Goreng) and trying that next time!  👀 Service is efficient, and you can order either with the staff or through the QR code. Atmosphere is great for casual catch ups, while being bright and nice enough to feel like you're away from your monotonous office. So sad that Makan isn't open for lunch during the weekends! Otherwise, you'd find me having lunch there on the regular. ❤️‍🔥

We had the set menu with dessert and were extremely full. I especially liked the soft shell crab bao, skewers, crispy tofu with green beans, and the fish. The atmospheres was perfect for a casual sit down dinner for the 4 of us. Service was excellent, I was never without water. Would recommend!
