Founded in 1960 and with more than 400 outlets in Indonesia, the popular chain Martabak Pecenongan 78 has arrived in Melbourne. No need to fly to Indonesia to eat martabak, a sweet dense pancake with toppings like condensed milk, chocolate, nuts, toasted rice and cheese. At the Lygon Street venue you can sample them all - sweet martabak, crispy thin martabak and crispy egg martabak (chicken, beef and vegetarian). Aside from the pancakes you can also order fresh Indonesian street style noodles, that promise to be springy, tasty and authentic.

Martabak Pecenongan 78 & D’Bakmie
This was the first time I had ever tried Martabak and I was very impressed not only by the concept but by the fact that each pancake is made to order (so be prepared to wait) and comes so loaded with ingredients that one piece and I was already half done! Between $17 to $30 might seem steep but it was rich and decadent and definitely made to share. The vibrant green Martabak Pandan with Chocolate and Cheese will brighten up your day as much as it will brighten up your Insta feed! It was like a sweet dense crumpet pancake loaded with toppings and smothered with lashings of butter that was so unique I couldn't even describe the taste or the texture even if I tried. It was a deeply satisfying experience made all the more sweeter trying the biscoff crispy crepe.. made using no less than a third of a jar of biscoff! The Egg Martabak with Beef is nowhere near as heavy but again great to be shared and the bakmie was also a great addition to cut through the density of the other dishes. Definitely not for dieters who are shredding for summer, but if you're looking for your best cheat meal, look no further - either come with friends or come hungry!

Martabak Pecenongan 78 brings Indonesia’s famous martabak right to Melbourne, and it’s everything you’d want in a pancake - warm, fluffy pancake stuffed with gooey fillings like chocolate, cheese, nuts, or even durian 🤭 And the best part? It’s a cheap eat that still hits the spot! The martabak is massive so perfect for sharing between 3-4 people. And for a savoury fix, D’Bakmie (same spot!) serves classic Indonesian street noodles like Jakarta or Bandung bakmie for under $16.

Food was extremely delicious. My Indonesian partner said it tasted the same as in Indonesia. Staff is kind and friendly. It is very popular, so you may need to wait a little to get a table. I want to go back and try more things. Very recommended.

Went there for lunch. We ordered Mie ayam jakarta, Mie ayam komplit, batagor, and kulit ayam (crispy chicken skin). Mie ayam dishes were best! Their batagor is different from what I expected but taste delicious. The crispy chicken skin needs a little crunch. Overall , we enjoyed eating in this place. I also take away their famous martabak. I ordered martabak manis Coffee and pandan with 1/2 cheese and 1/2 chocolate Sprinkle and beef martabak asini. Both are amazing! My husband, who loves martabak, really enjoyed this!

My husband wanted to eat tasty Indonesian food and we heard a lot about this place, so we thought why not give it a go. We ordered several dishes here like nasi goreng, mie goreng, grilled chicken, signature dessert. Everything we had was super delicious. Food was awesome and the quantity was nice as well. The service was quick despite the restaurant being busy. The staff was nice and courteous. We will deifinitely visit this next time and is on our list of good Indonesian food.

This is one of the best pancakes that I can find in Melbourne, I wish it opens in different parts of Australia including Brisbane Perth and Sydney Love the combinations of chocolate cheese and peanuts with sesame and condensed milk it was quite sweet but in a good way. The one with beef also taste very good and not too chewy and flavourful. Recommended and will order delivery some more.

The martabak is delicious! I didn’t think cheese and Nutella together would work but was deliciously surprised! Took like 30 minutes to cook but was tasty and hot.

I went there last night with my uncle and my aunt’s family. It was fantastic!!! As an Indonesian, the taste is really nostalgic and its very very delicious. We all enjoyed it very much, I highly highly recommend it if you are looking for Indonesian sweets! They also sell other savory food if you want other options. Service 10/10 and food 10/10, the owner is wonderful and had a lovely conversation with her.

We tried a variety of dishes and were impressed with each one! We started with the Martabak Telur Beef, which was savory and packed with flavor. The Indonesian Street Noodle (Level 3) had the perfect amount of spice—just the right kick! We also enjoyed the Jakarta Noodle, which was deliciously rich and well-balanced. The fried wonton with special sauce was crispy and paired wonderfully with the sauce, making it a great appetizer. The reason we stopped by was for their famous sweet martabak, and it did not disappoint. Watching the Blackforest Chocolate Cheese Martabak being made right in front of us was a treat in itself. The martabak was warm, gooey, and loaded with chocolate and cheese. It was hands down one of the best sweet martabaks we’ve ever had. Definitely give this spot a try, especially for their incredible sweet martabak!

I just have to share how much I love martabak, both the savory and sweet kinds! When I found out there’s a spot in Melbourne that serves them, I was beyond excited! We tried the sweet fluffy martabak (martabak manis), and oh my goodness, it’s definitely the best I’ve had in Melbourne! It’s so authentic and completely addictive! The savory martabak didn’t disappoint either; it had such a lovely balance of meat and egg. We also indulged in some bakmi, which brought back so many wonderful memories for me. It was like a delicious trip down memory lane! The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the deep-fried chicken skin; it was a bit too oily for my liking. But honestly, this Indonesian restaurant is fantastic! The flavors are super authentic, and I just wish I lived closer so I could treat myself to these yummy dishes more often!

I love this chicken feet, it's spicy and delicious. This reminds me of Indonesia. The Martabak is also something I missed from Indonesia, and I found it here!! 5 stars from me✨

Delicious Indonesian style chicken noodles (very cheap) and authentic martabak that made me feel nostalgic about being in Jakarta. The service was great, the food came fast after ordering. Our family will be loyal customers for sure.

Finally had the chance to lunch at Martabak 78 after hearing so much about it. Service was good. Didnt have to wait long. The Bakmie Jakarta was yummy and authentic indeed! You have the option to make it into a set with wantons and bakso 👍🏻 Couldnt resist the Egg Martabak (chicken) so ordered to take away. Mind you, it was snapped up so fast by the family I only had one piece! Cant wait to visit again for the sweet martabaks….after 4pm. Till then I can only dream of toblerone martabak 😋

🇮🇩🍜 martabak and bakmie 🏠: @dpenyetz.australia @martabakpecenongan78australia 📍: Lygon St, Carlton ❤️: Embarking on a gastronomic adventure at D’Bakmi on Lygon Street, Melbourne. My taste buds were taken on a flavorful ride with their Bakmie Premium Jakarta. Picture a bowl filled with fresh made noodles, infused with the perfect blend of secret sauce, accompanied by tender diced stewed chicken, delightful straw Mushrooms, aromatic garlic oil, and a generous serving of fresh veggies 🍜🔥 While exploring D’Bakmi on Lygon Street, Melbourne, I couldn’t resist the temptation of Martabak Pecenongan 78 nestled within the same store. My taste buds went into overdrive with their heavenly 🍫🏔️ Toblerone premium Martabak. Each bite was a blissful blend of rich chocolate, gooey Toblerone filling, and a crispy golden crust. If you have a craving for delicious Bakmie ayam (chicken noodles) then this is place to go! Tastes like home to me. The Martabak is also a must try! Takes me back to when I was a little girl. Delicious chocolate with cheese! Will come back again.

They are well known for their Martabak, which I have eaten before. However, today, I tried their spicy full set noodles, and I am amazed at how full I was. The portion didn't seem much, but I felt full when I finished my bowl. Coming to the decor of the place, I like how they used yellow to make it brighter and stand out in that strip. Apart from that, it was pretty simple and decent. However, their QR code system got us confused, the yellow QR code is for dine in, and the red is for delivery, I reckon. All in all, it was a pleasant experience considering price and food.

nice concept indo street food loved by many 😍, tipkernya paling garing se melbourne, acar + martabak telornya compliment each other, nice chewiness of the noodle but the mince bit dry when i had them, overall nice experience and good place to catch up with friends
