As one reviewer aptly put it — no one comes here for the atmosphere, but for the food! And I absolutely love the food. It takes me back to my years working in Indonesia, a lifetime ago, and reminds me so much of the Padang meals I used to enjoy. The portions are generous and reasonably priced, and there’s always a great variety of dishes to choose from. My personal favorites? The goat curry, the rendang, the bakwan… and of course, the sambal ijo — so flavourful and nostalgic, I used to buy a little container to take home with me.

It has authentic flavors, which remind me of my hometown. It has a Padang restaurant atmosphere, which increases my appetite. The most fantastic thing about Pondok Buyung is its affordable prices and significant food portions. It is very recommended for you who are craving Padang food.

Honest to goodness Indonesian food, the kind you would expect to find on the streets of Jakarta. The spice is full force, and the flavors abound. I highly recommend checking this place out as they always shift the different dishes and they are always fresh and delicious. Don’t let the grudge fool you, this is the true delicious.

Aesthetically the location is not so appealing however it doesn't matter when the food looks so appealing and tastes even better. With free tea, the perfect place to have original Indonesian cuisine, with a love and passion that everyone can taste. Helpful note though, be familiar with the cuisine or be willing to try things you have never tried before.

Best Indonesian food joint in Sydney. Full of delicious and authentic selections. I used to live across the street and the only place I get my Asian cuisine. 2 choices of meat and 1 choice of veggie at $12.50.

Good things: - awesome food ! so yummy!!! - super affordable and large portion sizes! - very authentic! - service was really efficient and they were so nice! Bad things: - toilet was really dirty/smelly and very dark

No-one goes here for the atmosphere. It's all about the food! Delicious, very generous portions and while the prices have gone up recently, it's still VERY reasonable. Love a good Indo feed every once in a while.

It’s not often I jump on my phone straight away after eating to leave 5 stars but I felt this place deserved it. The flavour bomb from each dish was absolutely amazing. $14.50 for 2 meat dishes, 1 veggie dish and a side of rice is truly solid value. It means you get an assortment of flavours and exciting flavours at that. Be sure to try their homemade sambal. Absolutely delicious!

I’ve tried many Padang restaurants across Sydney and Pondok Buyung is by far the best one. I’ve been dining here for many many years and the food has been consistently good. I would say they offer the most authentic Nasi Padang if you are feeling homesick. This one is definitely a must try.

If you're after an Indonesian restaurant which serves you fresh, tasty, authentic Padang food this is the place to go. The decor is basic but the food is one of the best i've tried. The service is excellent, the young lady serving me today was very pleasant, polite and very efficient. I almost ate halfway through my lunch before I took picture of it, it was really good. I chose one meat dish (beef rendang) and two vegetable dishes (absolutely deliscious) served with rice 👍

This is an absolute Gem .Best Malay/Indunisian/Sri Lankan/Kerala type Rice and curry shop in Sydney by a country mile.I am a Sri Lankan and the mentioned countries have similar type cousin where curries based on Coconut milk.I went to all Sri Lankan Kerala shops in sydney for past 5 Years but couldnot satisfy my taste buds 100% like I used to have when I was hoem until my wife took me there today for lunch where she got a recommendation from a youtube channel.When I first saw the name board I was bit skeptical and worried that this place even closed down but when I came to the ordering counter which is few paces from Entrance I was mesmorised.My memory went back several years where I used to eat at colombo and the food didnt dispoint either.If you heven been there yet try it and you will never bother to find another place for the same gurenteed.

I’ve been coming here for years. Pondok Buyung serves amazing delicious food and many choices to choose from. You will be very satisfied with the servings and is very affordable. Hard to find a place to beat price and taste. Great place for lunch as you can be served your food instantly. If you’re not too concerned about atmosphere/comfort and just want an affordable quick satisfying meal with no fuss, than this is your place!

One of the best nasi padang in Sydney, can't go wrong with it. Plenty of options for the dishes. Big portion for 3choices. During summer it can get quite hot for eating in, as it doesn't have AC.

My missus always seems to order the better meal than me & she did it again here, her plate was piled high with delicious meats, veg & rice & while mine was also very good it didn’t quite measure up to hers. Anyway the foods tasty with a good variety & it’s all ready made so there’s no waiting. There’s plenty on the plate & when the sauces mix with the rice it’s a winner. It’s a no frills eatery but the price is right & we both walked away happy although one slightly more so than the other :)

Can't go wrong with a good plate of nasi padang. You can easily optimise and get yourself 2 meals by ordering 2 meats, 1 veg and rice for $15????!?! In this economy??!?! Anyways the food was very flavourful, and not very spicy at all. If you're not a fan of spicy food there's definitely a wide variety of choices. I liked it.

This is Sydney's best Padung style Indonesian eatery by far! An amazing array of traditional dishes, the biggest variety we have seen anywhere, all of it delicious 😋 Great value, feed a family of four for 50 bucks.

Have been here many times. Real authentic. Always good food. Cheap. A meal is about 10 to 15 dollars Many things to choose from, vegetarian friendly. Cash only so bring that
