Waroeng Spesial Sambal "SS" is a brand that serves many variations of fresh sambal (chili sauce) and Indonesian cuisines. Waroeng SS was established in 2002 in Yogyakarta by Yoyok Hery Wahyono. His Passion in culinary world and his hobby in cooking became a trigger to continue this spicy culinary business. This business emerged becaus of Yoyok's (well-known as Mr.Huuh-Haah) struggle againsted economic pressure that was experienced many years ago. Yoyok and his colleagues firstly established Waroeng SS with a tent outlet at the roadside of Kaliurang Street which was known as a culinary center for scholars because it is located nearby several famous universities

Incredible value, and a fantastic eating experience for anyone who likes to try a lot of different options in the one sitting. Great selection of sambals and small dishes. Delicious Indonesian food! Highly recommend. Super friendly staff too!

As a spice lover I cannot tell you how happy I was to have discovered this place. I ordered more than I could eat but made sure to bring back home. Thankfully it's not located too far from my work so I am looking forward to trying them more. I really enjoyed the grilled version of proteins paired with spicy sambal. The only thing that disheartened me was their extremely diluted drinks. I ordered orange juice which just tasted like few drops of orange in a glass of water! They are not that far away from brunetti, so just walk over there for desserts to calm the heat.

Simply the best Indonesian resto in Australia in terms of spicy food options. Grilled chicken + shrimp paste shallot tomato = ‘a must try’.

If you like spicy Indonesian chilli sauces, you need to visit this place. They have different varieties you cannot find in other Indonesian restaurants. The price is reasonable and the service is quite fast.

Amazing to find Waroeng SS in Melbourne! It’s been my favorite since high school in Semarang, and I’m thrilled the taste is just as authentic. Ordered the ayam goreng, bebek goreng, bebek bakar, daging bakar, and of course, the crispy mushrooms—still delicious even with a different type of mushroom. The fresh terasi sambal is spot on, though the mango sambal tastes slightly different, not sure why. Only downside? No white crackers, which I miss! Back in Indonesia, a meal for two was never over 200k IDR, but here it’s around $70. Worth it for the nostalgia, though!

It was amazing to finally able to enjoy Waroeng SS in Melbourne. It’s just a short walk from Unimelb. Have tried Waroeng SS since 2009 on the roadside next to UGM Jogja, all the way to Australia, the taste’s still authentic and needless to say, excellent! Recommended for a Indonesia’s foodie enthusiasts and a spicy food lover. Things to add: It’s halal and prayer room for muslim was provided inside the resto.

I tried the duck fried and chicken breast fried, sambal mangga is not the best one but okay. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving bold, spicy Indonesian food!

I visited this restaurant multiple times, and had a good experience in every visit. This halal Indonesian restaurant offers various sambal (Indonesian chili relishes) with various ingredients and levels of spiciness. You can choose chicken, duck, catfish, or beef as the main proteins- fried or grilled. Some sambals also come with proteins: egg, salted squids, tempeh, or tofu. Veggies options also available to make your dish more complete and full of fiber. My favourite would be fried chicken, fried tofu and tempeh, and empal- sweet spiced fried beef. It was tender, sweet with galangal and lemongrass note. There is also a dedicated mushalla upstairs for muslim who want to pray.

Absolutely amazing value for money without cutting corners on quality. The fried duck package was hands down my favorite - perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Service was top-notch, and what really stood out was that they didn’t charge a cent for takeaway boxes, which you rarely see these days. I’m definitely coming back with my wife!

This is my first time visiting this restaurant to try their dishes. You'll need to write down your name to book the table when you come, especially during busy times. They have many kind of sambal that you can choose, and I think the price is affordable. Today, I ordered fried tilapia, fried cat fish, stir fried kangkung, gobal gabul omelette, hot oil garlic sambal, and green mango sambal. The taste satisfied my tongue, love it! 😍

Great food, great ambience, great location! what else do you need? Just 20mins away from Melbourne CBD, and it’ll take us to this cozy restaurant that serves one of the best bento with great value. Dancing in The Ocean is truly my favourite as it has several combinations of sashimi on top of California maki. All of the bento tastes good, especially the song of the sea. It’s so fresh. What we order: • black garlic aioli chicken sando $18.9 • truffle chicken sando $19.9 • song of the sea $29.9 • sukiyaki beef bento $26.9 • dancing in the ocean $26.9 • what the crab $23.9

Great customer service, the FoH staffs have very nice attitude. We can’t expect this SS to be identical to the one in Indo but overall it’s great enough! The sambal bajak & sambal kecap are great. The chicken are perfectly cooked. Tahu tempe were great. Just the beansprouts were not the best. Overall great experience. Thanks for opening in Melbourne to make us Indos less homesick 🥰

Loved eating at this restaurant! I ordered fried fish (tilapia), cooked shrimp sambal, and the very satisfying vegetable soup with shredded meat (so comforting). Cures the homesickness away. Highly recommended!

Went here couple weeks ago but just started to review it now. I don't know if they've improved the service but we wait for quite a long time. I understood the situation, it's chaotic as they're quite new at that moment. We didn't manage to get the drumstick part of the chicken as they've sold out, and kangkung terasi too. So, we ordered the fried catfish, fried calamari, fried chicken, and green chili. Aside from the chaotic atmosphere, the quality of the food is top notch. Really enjoyed all of their dishes especially the calamari, so flavorful. We were also shocked that the chicken was so tender even tho it's not drumstick. Would recommend this to anyone for cheap eats, but don't come during busy hours.

One of the best stir fry kangkung I had in my life. The texture and taste was perfectly balanced. Perfectly good. Double thumbs up. Everything I had was very good except the chicken breast was dry, but it still had a good taste.

Visited the newly opened Waroeng Spesial Sambal SS in Melbourne, and it was definitely worth it! The crispy fried chicken was perfectly golden, paired with spicy mango sambal and another anchovies sambal, both packed with flavor. If you're in Melbourne and looking for a taste of Indonesia, Waroeng SS promises a satisfying and familiar experience, especially for sambal enthusiast, makes it a must-try for anyone looking for bold, spicy, and comforting meals. Definitely will come back to taste other menu!

Visited the new Warung SS in Melbourne for the first time, and it was a great experience. The prices are incredibly affordable, and the food is decent with medium-sized portions. The sambal sauces are excellent—we tried the sambal cumi and sambal terasi mateng, both of which we really enjoyed. The roasted duck is a must-try dish. The staff are very friendly, and I appreciate that they serve the sambal sauces separately from the main dishes, unlike the same chain in Indonesia. This is a smart move, as it allows you to enjoy your meal even if you find the sambal too spicy. We visited during a weekday lunch, and while it was busy, there were still plenty of seats available. The toilets are located on the second floor, which might not be the most accessible, but they have a decent-sized prayer room for Muslims, complete with a place for wudhu (ablution). Overall, I’d give it a 5/5 and would definitely return!

Really great food at amazing prices! We ordered so much for two people and the order came below $30. The sambals are authentic and everything cooked so well. We'll definitely be back!
