Selamat datang to Ria Ayam Penyet - Founded by Ibu Ruth, this family-owned restaurant has been humbly serving true Indonesian food across South-East Asia for decades. To some, Ria is the taste of home, a nostalgic weekend family lunch at one of the many Ria’s across Indonesia. For others, it’s the taste of adventure, their first bite into a crispy Indonesian smashed chicken while on a business trip in Singapore. Now celebrating the flavours and handed-down family traditions of Indonesian street food on the streets of Australia. With no compromise of flavour and spices, staying true and authentic since 1998. Experience Ria, experience Indonesia.

We ordered a Nasi Goreng with ribs and a Mee Goreng. Food was very tasty and a large serve so we got a takeaway container and took the rest back to our hotel for the next night. Services was speedy. Credit card surcharge.

One of the nicest Indonesian Ayam Goreng. Freshly fried and good crispy batter and marinate. Good selection of chilli and comes with fried tofu and soybean. Recommend have a bowl of rice to go with it or with the soup.

Overall: 6/7 Not a super cheap restaurant but they deliver very high quality dishes with lots of variety. A bit of a hidden gem one might say, compared to a lot of other restaurants around Wynyard this one doesn’t have a long line during lunch rush. Their menu / ordering system isn’t very good though so be careful when ordering - most of the mains don’t come with rice, and the combo meals are at the very very end of the web app, and non existent on the printed menu. The combo is definitely a good deal though. Big fan of adding some of their black sauce (kecap manis?) onto the rice. Note that the sambas is very spicy. Ayam nasi goreng: 6/7 Been here a few times now and find that the nasi goreng is usually out of stock. Finally got to try it and it’s a banger, highly recommend. The flavours are all very good, rice is very well cooked and the chicken is as usual - very well fried, juicy and well seasoned with simple flavours. Beef ribs: 5/7 Super well cooked but would’ve liked for it to come out piping hot - it was a bit on the cooler side which was disappointing. But the flavours are deep and rich, with the sauce thick. Goes super well with the rice, which needs to be separately ordered. Fried chicken: 6/7 Super well cooked. Outside is very crunchy without being hard, and meat is juicy and tender. Fried tofu: 5/7 Really well fried and the tofu is a good balance of firm but not dense. Turmeric soup: 4/7 A bit too salty but overall still very flavourful and good with rice. Meatball soup: 5/7 Classic indo soup being super flavourful, but it always makes me question how much msg is in there… tastes great though - but maybe a bit on the salty side. Fried steak: 5/7 Quality beef, not too fatty - but tender and pulls apart.

First time I came yo this restaurant with few friends, we ordered Batagor, Ayam Penyet, ayam bakar, Iga Bakar, omg everything was so good, tasted very authentic. Grill Iga must try. Thank you Ayam Penyet Ria for bringing authentic Indonesian dishes. All the chilli/ sambal sauce was amazing, from bawang, green chilli, balaca. We will definitely come back again.

Love their city location is as it’s close to Town Hall, and not far from Wynyard. Quite spacious with lots of seatings too. Friendly service too. Batagor & Iga Bakar (Grilled Beef Ribs) were very good 🤤. Anything with Penyet (spiced crumbs) menu are so tasty. That spiced crumbs 😍!! And they’re Halal too! However please note that their Sambal (chilli sauce) is spicy! Their mild sambal (green chilli) is more like medium spicy, and their spicy sambal (sambal terasi & sambal bawang) are really spicy 🥵. You can choose your sambal option when you order, options include satay sauce & sambal balado (not spicy), sambal matah etc.

Datang 2x di grand opening mereka. Ayam Penyet & Iga Penyet is *chef’s kiss* very delicious. Batagor is okay. But their Martabak Telor & Risoles should be improved. I ordered Es Cendol and the taste is bad. The coconut cream is separated (santan nya hancur). And I’ll drink it anyway. Next visit, my friend order Es Cendol too with the same condition (santan nya gak menyatu). She asked the staff and they replace it with the good Santan condition. Ayam Penyet Ria better check their meal preps first before serving.

I came for the Sop Buntut but I decided to try the gado gado which came out very quickly. It wasn’t bad but was a little different to what I am used to which is the Malaysian version. Rating: 3.5/5. The sop buntut was excellent. It was a generous serve with two pieces of oxtail that had been cooked to the point where the meat was just holding onto the bone. The soup was very flavourful with the complexity of flavours from the spices and aromatics.Rating: 5/5 Overall, I am going to give this meal 5/5. I went there primarily for the sop buntut after all!

📍Ayam Penyet Ria, Kent Street Flavours of Indonesia 🇮🇩, it was tasty and spicy at the same time. 🅿️ for anyone wanting to drive in parking is available at Wilson’s parking, there isn’t any free street parking as you’ll have to pay for it. I would recommend to walk to the restaurant as it’s close by to all transports bus and trains. Closest station would be town hall and walking distance to Wynyard. The location is in a great spot where there is heavy foot traffic with office workers, lots of seatings. The menu is easy to read with many alacart options and self explanatory information of food. 7/10 for customer service! Service was okay but super slow. 10/10 for the yummy food, it’s cheaper than some places. They both have the dine in and takeaway option I would recommend come in early as I heard it gets busy. Price ranges from $2.50 - $20 Great ambience, and the vibe was great. The customer service needs a little work, and a little slow! The food however was super delicious. Overall experience 9/10 #Sydney #Australia #indonesia #asian #indo #spicy #lunch #beef #pork #satay #city

One of the best spots for ayam penyet in Sydney! The chicken is perfectly fried—crispy on the outside, tender and succulent on the inside. The sambal is the real star though—spicy, punchy, and absolutely addictive. They also serve kremesan, which adds that perfect crispy touch. It can get a bit slow during peak hours, but that’s totally understandable given how popular (and delicious) it is. Well worth the wait every time. Highly recommended!

Spend my friday night here, the food was really good!! I was served by man that wearing glasses. He was very kind even they are busy. But my next table was confused bcs there was no cuttlery served. Also the cuttlery box was empty once. (Im ok cause I’m using hands to scoop the food) Should have put sign/ inform there is cuttlery. Otherwise othher think we all should use hands as it is Indonesian restaurant 😆

Indonesia restaurant specialising in penyet chicken. I've been visiting the Randwick branch as well. The food tastes good, and the staff are friendly. Careful with the spiciness levels. This new city CBD branch has wider spaces. One of the Indonesian restaurant must visit.

So I went to this Indonesian restaurant with a friend tonight. Was my first time I tried Indonesian food. I recognised some of the food from Malay restaurant but I wanted to try something I hadn't tried before. I ordered the Empal Penyet(not too spicy). It was quite good actually esp with the peanut sauce. I also ordered Es Cendol drink which she recommended to me. Was a little sweet but not too bad. Place itself had a chilled vibe and plenty of people. I will return.

I love their food so much you dont even know. Their portions are big, and their price reflects their quality. Ambiance, customer service and cleanliness are top notch. Overall their soto ayam and ayam penyet set - the best. Would recommend all to visit and try! 😆

Hi, this has been our 3rd times to Sydney. And this Ria restaurant in Kent Street is the most authentic Indonesian food in Aus. Be it ayam penyet, iga bakar, tempe penyet or rawon (the black soup). Me and my wife are from West Java but spend alot of time in East Java. The rawon itself can be compete to legendary Rawon Rampal in Malang 💚🔥, and Iga Bakar Lekko in Jakarta? Lewat bro sama Iga bakar Ria ini🔥. Sapi Australia mau dilawan 😂. For ones who looking for Halal food, the staff (woman) also had sufficient knowledge about Halal concepts, not only no pork no lard, but also the way we cut it. And the way they source it. For owner, pls keep is halal as possible ! The staffs are polite and very communicative. I met also the kitchen staff who ethnically Makassar [who also studied here], this helps us on confirming the halal way for the food, as Makassar people will understand what is halal.

It's nice that they finally opened in the city. Price is still very reasonable and the fried chicken (ayam) is quite delicious. Nice place to go after some shopping at QVB that is not so touristy.

Great food! Enaaak! Tapi empingnya aga keras. Masaknya engga even.. It will be even better if you can provide vegetarian protein as options for your rice and other dishes.
