What a lovely little gem which is hidden in the opposite side of Lakeside Drive (Albert Park). The Indonesian food here is so authentic, every dish was cooked with heart, absolutely yummy and tasty. Gentle reminder, the parking spots are limited along the Queen Street. Use the street parking space in Union Street is much easier.

Taste like Indonesia, it was delicious. The nasi bungkus has a lot of options for meat and veggies. They were all delicious, so flavorful. Batagor and ketoprak were also delicious. Peanut sauce on gado gado was very tasty. Nasi goreng was also good.

You know it's legit when not one English word is spoken by staff and or its customers and it's hidden in plain sight and you can't even pronounce it's name. This tiny little cafe is the ultimate in cheap, authentic and homely Indonesian flavour wrapped like a present in a loaded banana leaf. With lots of smiles and pointing and nodding, the staff were extremely accommodating. But also with Indonesian names that I can't pronounce, standouts were the marinated beef ribs in green chilli salsa, the stewed squid in a rich aromatic ink sauce, the eggplant in red chilli relish with anchovies and the gelatinous skin cracker cooked in spicy chilli jam with black eyed peas and soybean cakes that was nothing short of delicious! You could easily eat here every day and never get sick of it - with so many choices, the combinations are endless. And every bite will have you debating your winning favourite!! The place is busy for good reason - good luck getting a seat but if dining in proves unsuccessful, the meal comes wrapped perfectly for takeaway!

If I could give 10 stars to their Nasi Bungkus, I would. Couldn’t get enough of their tempeh, terong sambal, and cabe ijo. Their mains are beautiful too, of course! We had their grilled ribs, ayam gulai, ayam goreng, all are highly satisfactory! Truly feels like we’re back home in Indonesia bcs the taste is just perfect ✨✨

I think I’ll just drop my own opinion here. Some people clearly don’t understand how busy restaurants work, this isn’t a fast-food chain ! It does get really busy on weekends, so yeah, you’ll need a bit of patience. But honestly, that just shows it’s a good spot. If you’re chill, you’ll enjoy it. If you’re not into waiting, maybe come on a quieter day. The food here is amazing, super authentic and always using best ingredients. Also, if you’re ordering mixed rice, just know it’ll come packed together and, yep, it’ll be mixed NB: From a FELLOW customer who may or may not have overheard someone hissing about how long the service was taking… please relax. It’s worth the wait. 😌

Whenever I’m abroad, I won’t look for any Indonesian restaurant β€” as I know it’s not fair to put high expectation on the flavor, as the ingredients wouldn’t be the same as what I can get in Indonesia itself. But Garam Merica Melbourne is just different. The foods are amazing, just like having Indonesian food in Indonesia β€” and some are even better. My picks are the beef rendang, cumi item and the sambal goreng. HUGE portion β€” I can split one nasi bungkus for two times meal. Haha. I brought some Indonesian friends who live in Oz, and after eat, they said, β€œFeels like home.” I couldn’t agree more. Place is quite small. So I’d recommend to come early to get a seat while the foods are still all available. Check on their IG @garammericamelbourne every once in a while to get update for their specials. Recommended, totally! β€”β€”β€”β€” Revisiting on November 29, 2024 Quality of foods remain the same. Must order: gulai kikil (the tendon is freakin’ tender), udang sambal petai (the doneness is perfect, lovin’ its crunchy texture of the prawns β€” and the stinky beans are so generous), cumi item, ikan arsik (tastes similar as the one i eat in around Toba Lake in North Sumatra). I also love their Pukis! Soft, fluffy, the sweetness is just right. Loving all I tried in this place!

First visit. Was encouraged by my wife to give a try to this place, came around lunch time and was waiting around 10 mins. Also it was the only shop selling heavy meal within walking distance with many offices surrounding. It was because the style of pick and choose the dish for meal which could take time especially for newcomers. I chose meatball and iced lemon tea for kid and mixed meal including fried chicken, corn fritters and 10 veggies dish. I would give 9 (near perfect) for food especially the variety and taste. The sambal wasnt too bad, could be more spicy tho. The service and the atmosphere were 6 (ok) as the seatings were many, peak time during lunch time and added with multi tasking single fighter waiter, it took sometime to clean up the used tables. Cutlery, drink and serviette were self service. There was toilet outside the shop within the building. Also we took away food (mixed meal including rendang-it was great taste, lodeh-spicy according to my wife, and corn fitter), pukis cake topped with choc rice and cheese, and cendol and bird nest drink. Overall, it is wonderful thing to have new experience. Reccomended to try.

I love this place. The food is simple and cheap and tasty! Given it’s no frills you can’t expect too much from the staff, but really the food is quick and they keep the restaurant clean, which is enough for me. Had some good vegetarian options and as most people get bungkus you get to pick and choose from the range. It helps if you know some Indonesian to understand what dishes are available.

Had a nasi bungkus during lunchtime on Sunday. Finding parking off the street is not an issue. But getting an indoor seat is quite troublesome. We came in a group of 4 and inside the restaurant was full pack. We then sat outside which was alright. You can choose the mix of the nasi bungkus by your taste. They came in approx $20 per pax. We also had the grilled friend chicken with green chilli sauce which is our favourite. Would recommend sitting outside if u chose to dine in as dining inside can be abit stuffy

My go to restaurant if I miss Indonesian food! Their recent Nasi Uduk with Chicken is so delicious! The coconut rice was perfectly cooked and so aromatic! And it’s not spicy, which suits my taste buds! Es Cendol drink is a must have too.

Authentic Indo food. 100 metres from Indonesian embassy so always busy with Indonesians. Spicy and tasty. Free 1 hour parking in laneway out back and can enter via back to the office building where this is located. Quick service.

Definitely one of the best Indonesian restaurants in Melbourne. The name of the restaurant has β€œWarteg”, = Warung Tegal, which means Tegal (style) Roadside Stall. Warteg is a simple yet permanent res- taurant that sells a wide range of dishes at cheap prices. Tegal is a town in central Java and, although the owner will probably be from there, the food available isn't necessarily specific to the region. This restaurant sells β€œnasi bungkus” (=packeted rice) for $19 per pack where you choose 2 meat and 2 veggies or 1 meat and 3 veggies or 4 veggies from the menu. I have tried many from the menu and so far like them all. Occasionally it will sell sate (=meat skewers) or bakso (=meatball). There is a good selection of Indonesian style drinks here too, such chendol and soda gembira. This is currently my favourite Indonesian restaurant in Melbourne. So yes, it is highly recommended for those who want to try authentic Indonesian (Javanese) food.

The best authentic Indonesian food in Melbourne. The ayam gobar is bursting with flavours and great value for money. The nasi bungus offers amazing variety in a neat banana leaf parcel. There is indoor seating and they also offer take away. Highly recommend trying this place.

Hand to heart, @garammericamelbourne is now our fav Nasi Bungkus (rice & dishes wrapped in Banana leaves) in Melbourne. Very good blend of spices and seasoning without overpoweringπŸ‘ŒDef one that we will revisit over and over again πŸ’• It can get quite busy - so We had: πŸ’› Rice with Ayam Bakarβœ…, Eggplant sambal βœ…, Pepes Tahu (similar spice to Otah-Otah)βœ…, and Ikan Bakar ala Jimbaran (Balinese) πŸ’› Sup bontot (ox tail soup) with rice βœ… 🀍 Mee goreng- too oily and not fragrant enough to our liking πŸ’› Cendol with durian is a bit on the sweeter side but def one of the better ones I’ve tried in Melbourne

The Best Nasi Padang In Melbourne How much more can I say? Simply the best nasi padang in Melbourne. The condiments are great! A must try is the black ink squid and their tendon curry. If you ever around to try it, please do yourself a favour and go! The place doesn’t look so nice but the food are amazing

Loved the dadar jagung and telor balado, though the sambal goreng kentang buncis could be spicier. The ayam bakar ala padang wasn't as fragrant as I would've liked either. Overall still pretty good though, portion was filling. The only downside is that they only sell their food as nasi bungkus, aka you can't order just certain dishes without rice, which could be inconvenient in some cases.

An authentic Indonesian food. This summer they have Bakso and sate as summer menu. Was packed at lunch time even though it was pouring rain. Unfortunately the ladies toilet couldn't be flushed and the toilet was jammed with toilet papers.

Haven’t been to this place for ages .. and finally made it to go there for lunch. Very good selections for the menu for the nasi campur. Today, I’ve ordered the fried chicken with nasi uduk nasi bungkus. One of the best Indonesian fried chicken in Melbourne. The Bihun is super tasty too. The place is quite small .. but I don’t mind .. Could always do take away as well. I really want to come back to try more nasi bungkus :)
