Really amazing place and interesting menu for Indonesian food. They have something different than the common Indo food menu you get everywhere. Loved the menu and food ordered. Beef ribs with rice was exceptional and delicious. Very tender and tempting. Must try and must visit place. I do recommend them. Will definitely be going back to try other items on the menu.

Kantin offers a great variety of authentic Indonesian dishes that are full of flavour. The portion sizes are just right- not too little, not too much and the prices are very reasonable. It's located in the food court, making it a good spot for lunch or dinner. It can get a bit busy during peak times, but the service is fast and efficient, so you won't have to wait long. All meals served are halal, which is perfect for those looking for halal options. If you enjoy Indonesian food or want to try something new, Kantin is definitely worth a visit. I'll be coming back to try more from their menu!

Kantin’s spring menu isn’t just a seasonal refresh, it’s a full-blown sensory ambush. The crispy barramundi arrived like it had something to prove: golden, unapologetically loud, along with jasmine rice. The spice crumbs added a crunch that lingered, while the garlic crackers snapped like thunder- pure texture theatre. The fried egg? Rich, and perfect. It tied the whole plate together like a rebellious ribbon. Then came the drinks: Es Cendol was nostalgia in liquid form- jelly, coconut milk, and palm sugar swirling like a childhood memory you didn’t know you missed. Es Markisa was the wild card—passionfruit pulp, tangy and electric, like a tropical plot twist mid-meal. The plating was clean but confident. No fluff, just flavor. Service was warm, fast and refreshingly unfussy. If Melbourne’s food scene is a stage, Kantin just stole the spotlight. I’ll be back with a bigger appetite and a fully charged camera.

Had the beef ribs and satay chicken skewers. Very tasty and a good portion size. It did take a while but we weren’t in a hurry and for $43 it is a little pricey for a food court. However, we would have it again, good food.

This is a great spot for authentic Indonesian cuisine, offering a delicious selection of dishes that cater to both spice lovers and those who prefer milder flavours. My personal favourite is their ribs. They’re incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with rich, savoury flavours. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone who can’t handle too much spice, but if you enjoy a fiery kick, any dish with sambal is a must-try. It’s bold, spicy, and enhances the flavours of the dishes beautifully. To round off your meal, don’t miss their chendol in a cup. The portion is just right, and the sweetness is perfectly balanced, making it a refreshing and satisfying treat.

I had an amazing experience at Kantin! The food was absolutely outstanding—authentic Indonesian dishes bursting with flavor and made with the finest ingredients. The drinks were also top-notch, complementing the meal perfectly. The staff were incredibly friendly and warm, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be returning for more delicious, honest-to-goodness Indonesian food. Highly recommend this place! The Highlights? Honestly, everything was mind-blowingly good! Every dish had its own personality, making it hard to pick just one favorite. Here's what we had: Satay Chicken – Grilled to perfection with smoky, tender goodness. Prawn Mie Goreng – A super flavorful, generous serving that had the perfect balance of spice. Ayam Bakar Bumbu Woku – Jasmine rice with garlic crackers, fried egg & a grilled chicken that had a crumbed spice crust that was absolutely divine. Kantin Pandan Toast – If you’ve never tried pandan kaya on burnt butter toast, you’re missing out. Paired with vanilla ice cream, it was a sweet finish that stole the show. And can we talk about the refreshing drinks? Es Cendol Nangka – An Indonesian classic with green rice flour jellies, coconut milk, palm sugar, and jackfruit (yes, jackfruit in a drink). Kantin Java Tea – A house special tea blend with pandan and basil seeds. So fragrant & soothing.

Just tried the new Indonesian food stall that recently opened in the food court area. While most other restaurants have already closed, this one is still open and going strong. Seating is easy to find, so it’s convenient if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. The food is tasty, portions are decent, and prices are reasonable. Staff are friendly too. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for Indonesian food without the wait.

Worth the money to try! The chicken was a bit overcooked and not as juicy as expected, but I truly LOVED the chili — super authentic and really captured that bold Indonesian flavor! Would still come back!

they told us it was a 15 minute wait for the food but it wasn't too long! I ordered nasi ayam bakar kecap and the chicken was so tender and the sauce was nice and sweet. I also really like the crackers. overall a really satisfying meal!

Truly enjoyed the dish. It was quite spicy, and the jasmine rice complemented the heat. The chicken was juicy and tender. I have been seeing their Carlton store for some time now, but I tried them at emporium today. I will surely recommend them to others. However, please keep in mind that some dishes are on the higher end, and I do feel like the portion of rice seemed less. Apart from that, I'm just waiting to try them out again.

I recently visited Kantin in the Melbourne Emporium food court, and it was a fantastic experience! The location is super convenient, just across the bridge from Melbourne Central, and the food was absolutely delicious. I tried the nasi goreng and satay skewers, and both were packed with authentic Indonesian flavours. The portions were generous, and the service was quick and friendly. It’s the perfect spot for a quick meal or takeaway when you’re in the city. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re craving a taste of Indonesia! 🌟

Let me introduce you to the authentic Indonesian food, located in the heart of Melbourne CBD. You can try it when you’re strolling around the city, after your’e tired of shopping, or to catch up with friends. The food here is amazing, especially the ribs. When you eat it with their sambal rica, that’s the best feeling! If you can handle spicy food, or drinks, go ahead and try their spicy fruit punch, and let us know in the comments how’d you like it! (We personally like it as it’s not available anywhere else!) Don’t forget to give a taste of their coffee Pandan MontBromo, and thank me later 😋😋

Already a staple in Indonesian cuisine in Carlton, their new venue might house a smaller menu than their first restaurant but still showcase all their favs with impressive variety. Easily accessible during shopping centre hours, it's disappointing they don't make it more well known that they provide gloves to eat with your hands because the wooden cutlery just doesn't cut it. Otherwise the laid-back but brightly lit atmosphere makes for a cool and fun vibe to the main Emporium food court and a stand out amongst the other contenders. The Nasi Iga Sapi Panggang Kantin (beef rib) was huge and came with the most addictive caramelised sambal manis pedas. It didnt exactly "fall off the bone" but was deliciously tender nonetheless. The Nasi Kuning Manado (fried chicken) was my favourite with its Manadonese turmeric rice, spicy caramelised anchovies and served with sambal terasi. Be warned - their sambals are definitely not for the faint hearted! A lot less spicy, the Sate Ayam Manis (chicken skewers) was sweetly coated in satay and perfectly balanced with the peanut sauce that was moorish even if it didn't make for the best picture. What also was a bit unfortunate looking was the Es Campur Medan (shaved ice) but then again, how do you gracefully dig into a bowl of jackfruit, red kidney beans and green rice flour jellies? All halal-certified and made-to-order.
