Kedai Satay In King St, located at 186 King St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia, has earned a reputation as one of the go-to spots in the city for authentic satay and Malaysian-style comfort food. Stepping inside, the inviting aroma of freshly grilled skewers immediately sets the tone for a hearty and satisfying meal. The highlight here is undoubtedly the satay itself. Each skewer is grilled to perfection, with a smoky char that balances beautifully against the tender, juicy meat. The accompanying peanut sauce is rich, nutty, and slightly sweet, complementing the savory flavors of the skewers without overpowering them. Portion sizes are generous, making it easy to share a platter among friends or enjoy as a filling solo meal. Beyond satay, the menu offers a range of traditional dishes that highlight the depth of Southeast Asian flavors. Nasi goreng and mee goreng stand out with their bold seasonings, while side dishes like roti canai provide a comforting balance. The food consistently delivers on authenticity, which sets Kedai Satay apart from competitors in Melbourne’s busy dining scene.

Nice Indonesian food from long-serving restaurant in the CBD. The mixed rice wrapped with banana leaf and paper is very delicious. Their chicken satay, beef ribs and tahu tempe with kremes are my other favourites.

Great authentic Indonesian food on Kings St. Decent indoor seating with a small outdoor section. I usually get their beef rendang and ais teller; both are excellent.

We had the Ayam Bakar, Sate Ayam and Soto Ayam - they were all delicious! My favourite dish was definitely the Soto Ayam which is a chicken soup! It has so much flavour and really surprised me 😍 It’s definitely a must-visit as everything we had was delicious and it was really reasonably priced!

This was such a wholesome dining experience that it officially piqued my curiosity to explore more Indonesian cuisine! Ayam Bakar – Grilled chicken that literally fell off the bone. So flavourful, so delicious. Soto Daging – A clear beef soup that packed a punch yet tasted so clean and comforting. Nasi Bakar – Seasoned rice wrapped in banana leaves, served with tender grilled beef ribs — every bite was bursting with flavour. Kedai Satay kindly invited me out to try out their menu.

Great food, fair price, good location and fast! We absolutely love their grilled lamb ribs. Happy to recommend them! Update: They've just introduced Nasi Bungkus recently with similar choices of chicken, lamb or fish (barramundi). It comes with wrapped (bungkus) and it contains rice, your main and a few condiments. The vegetable they have is not really for me as it's very very fibrous but otherwise, it's super Yummy!

This little spot on King St serves up the heartiest NASI BUNGKUS (aka wrapped rice) wrapped in banana leaf!l • Nasi Bungkus Lamb Ribs ($21) +Tahu Tempe (+$2) • Nasi Bungkus Grilled Barramundi ($21) Egg Balado (+$3) • Curry Chicken ($15) • Mango Ice Blend ($8.5) • Ice Teler ($8.5) The Nasi Bungkus had tender turmeric rice, spicy curried potatoes, veggies, a tasty curry sauce and the most perfectly grilled meats! Well balanced with the perfect amount of char, highly recommend!

I recently had a lovely dinner at Kedai Satay. We ordered to share the grilled beef ribs, curry with lamb, spicy tofu and yellow rice. For drinks we had the ice teler and mango ice blend. I highly recommend trying one of the signature grilled dishes. The beef ribs were grilled to perfection, they were so tender and coated in a delicious peanut sauce. The curry with lamb was another beautiful dish. Full of flavour, the lamb falls off the bone and melts in the mouth, we couldn’t get enough. Although called spicy tofu, the tofu wasn’t spicy at all and made for a lovely entree. Both the ice teller and mango ice blend were refreshing and sweet. If you’re looking for a taste of Indonesia right here in Melbourne I highly recommend checking out Kedai Satay.

Kedai Satay is hands down one of the best Indonesian restaurants in Melbourne CBD! This place is incredibly authentic, with spice levels that are perfect for anyone who loves a good kick. One of my favourites is their bungkus grilled fish – the flavours are so unique and genuinely capture that authentic Indonesian taste. While the portions might look small at first, they’re actually quite compact and filling.

Beef ribs & barramundi were amazing, melted in your mouth. Salad and yellow rice were great to balance out the chilly paste. Thai milk tea was nice. Cold Tiger beer. Friendly and fast service. Staff made food quickly and asked if we were ready quickly. Atmosphere was relatively medium busy when we were there. Good music. Great interior decorations

This place had been on my radar for some time and I wish I had gone sooner. I arrived right on 1130 opening, which they were just arriving for work. I ordered the five x satay chicken skewers with yellow rice. Seating is relaxed in a restorative environment. My order took some 45 mins to come up, despite being the first in but second table to order. The food didn't dissapoint. Even the salad was nice. I had a favourite Chinese, favourite Indonesian and favourite Singaporean and now this place tops of them. Customer service was friendly and price good.

Simple, unpretentious place serving good food. Ordered: Batagor - short for BAkso TAhu GOReng which is a fried tofu meat/seafood dish served with a peanut sauce - different and tasty. Beef Ribs with yellow rice - well marinated, grilled well - served boneless. Great dish. Nasi Beef Rendang with yellow rice - cooked well, tender, not dry. Comes with egg belado. Another good dish. Iced Teler - like a slushy with ample toppings. Refreshing but a little too sweet. Friendly and prompt service. Well priced portions. 3% off when paying in cash.

💯🔥 Please do yourself a favour and visit this place to relish their authentic Indonesian food. No kidding, this restaurant consistently puts out delicious food, of which the grilled beef ribs with rice is a favourite of mine. 🥩😋 The Grilled Beef Ribs With Rice ($22.10) is one of their bestsellers for a good reason. The dish doesn't look pretentious or grand, a bowl of rice with absolutely delicious ribs meat, that feels like a piece of heaven in my mouth. Words aren't enough to express how good this dish is. Along with the jasmine rice, it was just perfect. The hot sambal was great as well, perfectly complementing the dish. 🆒👍🏼 The place is often busy and noisy, so that's something to be aware of. The food more than makes up for it, so it hardly matters. The staff are alright. Without a doubt, one of the best beef dishes I've had in the CBD so far.

Highly recommend ordering the nasi bungkus if you come here! It’s a traditional dish that’s wrapped in banana leaves with rice, various sides and your choice of protein. I chose the iga bakar which is grilled beef ribs and wow the meat was sooo tender. Also love the diced chunks of potato mixed in with that delicious balado sauce. Highly recommend checking this place out when in the city!

It is my favourite Indonesian restaurant in Melbourne. The food is cheap but still delivers amazing taste. My favourite order is Char-grilled Barramundi with Yellow Rice. The black sauce and sambal sauce are tasty, and they lift the fish flavour to another level. The service is quick and the staff are really friendly. The restaurant has many tables outdoors and upstairs.
